Obituary of Jack Christopher Boudreaux

Jack Christopher Boudreaux, PhD

1/9/1944 - 2/22/2024

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Jack attended Jesuit High School from 1958 to 1962. He was a skilled orator throughout his life and, as a junior at Jesuit, he won both an award for a speech he presented at the American Legion Oratorical Contest and first place for his Baritone Solo at a Louisiana State Rally. He also participated in several theater productions during his undergraduate years. Jack was dedicated to his educational career and went on to graduate with a degree in Philosophy (BA) from University of New Orleans and a degree in Mathematical Logic (PhD) from the University of Notre Dame.

God blessed Jack with an exceptional intelligence, and he worked hard to not squander his gift. With his PhD, Jack taught Philosophy at Catholic University for seven years. Following that, he established a 32-year long career working for the Department of Commerce at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the field of Computer Science. During that time, he won many awards for his work as a project manager overseeing multiple government funded research projects throughout the U.S., all while conducting his own research, singly and in collaboration with others. He was an accomplished writer authoring dozens of publications related to computational theory, manufacturing principles, logical systems, and engineering methodology.

He also edited books and conducted manuscript peer reviews in his field.

Because he was an expert in computational languages and at the request of the government, Jack developed a novel computational language that he named AUTOMATED MANUFACTURING PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE ENVIRONMENT (AMPLE) (https://archive.org/details/ampleproject8634boud). AMPLE was developed for two main reasons: to provide a precise mechanism for the construction of control interfaces to industrial manufacturing processes; and to provide an integrated system of software tools for translating product design and process planning specifications into verified equipment-level control programs.

Jack made a huge impact in life with both his career and his personal life. He got married when he was still in college, raised two daughters, and spent 58 years with his wife by his side. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Kelt Boudreaux; wife, Joy deBoisblanc Boudreaux; daughters Andi Grove (David) and Dr. Monique Kelly (Kevin); a brother, David Boudreaux (Richard); his grandchildren William Grove (Lizzy), Paige Grove, and Emily Grove; and nieces, a nephew, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Borne P. Boudreaux, Sr. and brother Borne P. Boudreaux, Jr.
