Obituary of Russell Boyd Walters

Russell Boyd Walters began his new life with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 01, 2015. Russell passed peacefully in his home in Charleston, SC with his wife and children. He was 56 years old. Russell was born January 16, 1959 in Charleston, SC where he lived most of his life. Son of the late Charles R. Walters and the late Irene Mae Walters. Russell was married March 26, 1994 to Jane Nolan Walters in Charleston, SC. He graduated from R. B. Stall High School. He as a faithful member of Saint John’s Parish on Johns Island where he was faithfully supported and dearly loved by all of the members. Russell’s spare time was spent with his wife at home and with their grandchildren. He also enjoyed working in their yard, building furniture and was an avid movie enthusiast. Russell truly had a God given talent for building furniture for his family. His career at New Orleans Cold Storage (NOCS) spanned over 25 years. As Senior Manager at NOCS, Russell’s work time was extensive. Russell’s extraordinary work ethic was unparalleled by anyone and his tireless dedication was admirable. He was a devoted and loyal employee; greatly loved by his co-workers. Russell battled Glioblstoma Stage 4 brain cancer for the past 5 years. Hospice has assisted with his care since January. Russell gave his life to the Lord September 14, 2010. His endurance and faith have been an awesome and wonderful testimony to God, the power of prayer and the Holy Spirit. On October 10, 2010, he was diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous brain tumor. Despite a prognosis of less than 6 months to live, God’s grace allowed him to live with the tumor in stasis. Upon hearing the news and prognosis, Russell’s number one goal and focus was to prepare everything for Jane to live comfortably in his absence. Job well done and completely accomplished, Russell! The past several months have been a difficult struggle for Russell and Jane as they have patiently and faithfully awaited God’s will and perfect timing. Russell stated, “I’m waiting to hear from God and know it is Him.” Russell is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jane; stepson Drew Warfuel and wife Melany; stepdaughter Joan Louise Brewer and husband Brian; grandchildren Andrew James Warfuel, Julia Elaine Warfuel, Elizabeth Hope Brewer, Mary Helen Grace Brewer and Joshua Stanclift Brewer; siblings Charles Walters, Sharon Corbin, Ann Singletary and Charlene Teachey; adopted grandchildren Olivia and Victoria Anastasis. He also leaves behind “K.C.” his faithful cat and companion. Jane and family invite visitors to her home on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 5:00pm-7:00pm. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 1:00pm at Saint John’s Parish (Walton Hall) 3673 Maybank Hwy, Johns Island, SC In lieu of flowers, Jane asks donations to be made to : MUSC Foundation, 18 Bee Street, MSC 450, Charleston, SC 29425 *marked: “Fund #0461 Brain Tumor Research in Memory of Russell Boyd Walters”
