Obituary of John McCann Connor

In Loving Memory John M. Connor, 92, peacefully passed away of complications from pneumonia on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 in North Charleston, SC. He was born on January 5, 1923 in New York City to Alice and Kempton Connor. John served in the Army during WWII as a Buffalo Soldier from 1941 to 1943. When he returned from the Army he married Rosalie Venable while at the same time studying to earn his B.S. in Accounting from Columbia University. He continued his studies at Columbia to receive his MBA in Accounting. John’s professional career included Controller at the Federation of Protestant Welfare; Controller at The Jewish Guild for the Blind; Director of Administrator Services/Assistant Treasurer at the NY Urban Coalition; and Controller for the African American Labor Center. After retiring he volunteered as a Peer Proctor at a local technical college and then served as Director of Administration for the City of Charleston Housing Authority. John is survived by his wife, Rosalie; daughters Pamela, Janice, Cynthia and was preceded in death by his daughter Brenda Connor Bey Miller; five grand children and five great grand children. Memorial donations may be made in John’s name to the Mended Hearts, North Charleston Chapter 175. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
