Obituary of Collene Gander

Collene Phillips Gander, 65, of Goose Creek, South Carolina passed away September 26, 2018 at her home.

Collene was born on March 12, 1953, in Jacksonville, North Carolina to Herman Joseph and Rachel Louise Phillips. She was a graduate of Swansboro High School. In 1983, Collene married Mark Gander in Jacksonville, NC.  The Marine Corps provided the opportunity to travel to Japan, Illinois, California, Hawaii, and Virginia.  She enjoyed traveling inclusive of Paris, Hong Kong, Seoul, Alaska and Abu Dhabi.  She is remembered by her love of country music, the beach and her family.

Collene is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. Mark E. Gander, USMC (Ret), daughters Karen Causey (Chad) of Loris, SC, Katherine Kraack (Evan) of Goose Creek, SC, and Robin Gander of Rock Hill, SC, two sisters, Patsy Quinn and Peggy Phillips of Swansboro NC, a brother Major Ray Phillips of Castle Hayne NC, and six grandchildren Brenna, Olivia, Claire, Maggie, Peyton and Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Gary Curtis Phillips and Herman Joseph Phillips, Jr.

Visitation will be held at 4:00 p.m. with a memorial service to be held at 5:00 p.m. at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation & Burial Services, Inc. on Sunday, September 30^th. Pastor Jason Cook and Pastor Vernie Batten will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).
