Obituary of Kathleen Roach Simmons

Kathleen Roach Simmons of Moncks Corner entered into the arms of the father on Monday, January 17, 2022.  Born January 8, 1951, Kathleen was preceded in death by her father, retired Navy Master Chief, Howard Basco Roach Sr of Greenville, SC.  Her mother Patricia Ann Lowe of Williston,  SC, and her husband Daniel Lester Simmons Sr, of Moncks Corner,  SC.

Kathleen was born in Pensacola, Florida. She spent the majority of her early years living in various Navy housing across the United States.  She was a child of the sixties and spent some of her late teens on the beaches of California and participating in peace rallies.  She moved back to the east coast at nineteen and met her future husband Daniel over a game of pool, which she won.

She worked various jobs over the years,  but her greatest job was being the most amazing mom, grandma, great-grandma, and friend to so many.  Many lost and wayward kids were easily taken in and made to be part of the family.  She was a huge collector of clowns and loved the smile they brought to people's faces.   She was a lover of plants and flowers and had a large array of various flowers to show for it.  She loved her vegetable garden, although she had a harder time tending to it later in life.

She was a member of Heritage Holiness church in Ladson, SC for more than twenty years.

She loved the Lord very much and was always willing to discuss the lord and the Bible with anyone who wanted to talk religion with her or wanted to talk about the lord.  She read her Bible daily and had read it cover to cover nine times.

She never met a stranger and was fast to become your friend.  She treated so many as family and was called "mom" by many.

Our mom was such a loving and giving person.   She was the cool mom, the mom our friends said they wished they had.  Whether it was making blanket pallets on the floor to have indoor picnics to watch The Wizard Of Oz, or taking us to get lunch and parking to watch the planes take off, our mom was always there for us.  She always supported us in any endeavor we came up with, be it starting a band, or various art shows, she was the one we could count on to be there for us.  With her weird and strange sense of humor, it was not uncommon to ride down the road laughing at one of her one-liners like "Omar the tentmaker". Our mom was not just our mom she was our friend and there will forever be a void, that can not be filled.  She is going to be missed terribly.

Kathleen is survived by her sisters Nancy Atkinson of Moncks Corner,  Mary Freeman of Lafayette Louisiana, Michelle Roach of Moncks Corner, and one brother Howard Basco Roach Jr of Barnwell.  Three children Mary Ann Alexander of Moncks Corner,  Daniel Lester Simmons Jr of Goose Creek, and Jason Christmas of Cordsville.   Three grandchildren Michael Anthony Alexander of Clarksville, Tennessee,  Victoria Kristine Alexander of Moncks Corner, and Zora Lena Alexander of Moncks Corner.  Two great-grandchildren Blake Thomas Alexander of Clarksville Tennessee and Alexis Wright of Moncks Corner.  Son in law Anthony Lee Alexander Jr of Moncks Corner.  Daughters of love Ivory Christmas of Cordsville, Rebecca Adams of Goose Creek, and Stacey Simmons of Charleston.
