Obituary of Joseph Matthew Keller

Joseph “Josie” Matthew Keller, 78, of Ravenel, passed away December 4, 2022 at his home. He was born March 6, 1944 in Charleston, the son of Elizabeth J. Keller and was raised by his maternal grandparents, Chick and Mary Hutchinson.

On April 5, 1964, Josie married Dianne Elsey at the First Baptist Church in Ravenel. Together they had two children; Tammy Lynn Keller (Billy) Gorman of Ravenel and Dennis McLain Keller (Nicole Erickson) of Battle Creek, MI. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Lindsay (Bobby) Grooms of Laurens, SC; Matthew (Alexis) Gwynn of Longville, LA; Lauren Keller of Charleston, SC; Justin (Kristen) Keller of Pearl River, LA; Noah (Charli) McCracken of Charleston, SC; Joshua (Katelyn) McCracken of Summerville, SC, Kathryn Keller and Megan Keller of MI; six great grandchildren: Tyler Arndt, Greyson Grooms, Samantha Grooms, Bowen Keller, Parker Gwynn, Jasper Gwynn , Cayden McCracken and a very dear niece Mary Beth Wood (Bob Uhlenhoff) of GA.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 yrs, Dianne Keller and a sister Harriet K. Wood.

Josie served in the United States Navy from October 4, 1961 to October 3, 1963 on the USS Rigel at Norfolk, Virginia. Before joining the Navy, he attended St. Paul’s High School in Yonges Island, SC.

Mr. Keller was a self-employed laminate installer by trade, but his greatest love was his family. He would host many family fish fry’s throughout the years. He took great pride in his yard and enjoyed fishing and crabbing.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Ravenel (5987 Hwy 165, Ravenel, SC 29470) from 1pm until the funeral service at 2pm. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Ravenel Cemetery Fund or to the family. Flowers will be accepted at the church.
