Obituary of Sarvis Cortez Hughes III

Sarvis Cortez Hughes III - COTTAGEVILLE SC - Sarvis Cortez Hughes III, a Vietnam veteran and resident of Cottageville, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023. Born on May 19, 1947, in Indiantown SC, he is the son of Sarvis Cortez, Jr and Mary Lyda Tanner Hughes. Sarvis graduated from St. Paul's High School in 1965 and proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1966 - 1973. Earning the rank of Corporal, he received the National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign, Vietnam Service w/1*, and Navy Achievement medals along with a Rifle Expert badge. He went on to retire as Journeyman electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

Sarvis is survived by two sisters, Lynn Platt and Shirley Webster (Herman), two sons, Chip Hughes (Stephanie) and Dale Hughes (Chasity), wife of his late son Aaron Hughes (Joanna), grandchildren Emily, Ellie, Bryce and Nate, great grandson Ryker, caregiver Elizabeth Clarke, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Daryl Hughes, and his son Aaron Hughes.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside memorial at 1pm on Saturday, January 28, in the Christ St. Paul's Episcopal Church cemetery located at 4981 Chapel Rd, Hollywood, SC 29449.
