Stuart Johnson

Obituary of Stuart James Johnson

Stuart James Johnson, beloved husband, father, brother, friend, and entrepreneur, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 31,1943 to Jane and Jim Johnson. Because Jim was a naval officer during the war, he was unable to meet Stuart until his child turned 1. Shortly later, the family moved to Milwaukee where Stuart's sister, Sarah, and his brother, Peter, were born. Eventually, the family settled in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, where Stuart lived until graduating from Radnor High School in 1962. In 1964, Stuart joined the Marine Corps Reserves as an infantryman. This was an important part of Stuart’s identity that became even more meaningful when his son, Michael Johnson, became a Marine Corps F-18 Hornet fighter pilot.

Stuart built and ran a very successful company, from 1978 until his passing. This enterprise focused on representing manufacturers, corporate meeting planning and fulfillment, business travel, and promotional sales. He ran the business in partnership with his wife of 28 years, Sharon, who was the love of his life. Together, they built a beautiful home in the Chicago region and South Carolina, and they subsequently established permanent residence in that state. He loved welcoming family and friends with a generous heart over great food, wine, and stories of travel and other adventures.

Stuart was devoted to his children from his first marriage, Lisa and Michael, whom he avidly supported, and he was very proud of his five grandchildren: Maggie, Meghan, Evan, Tyler, and Colin. A true Renaissance man, Stuart is survived by a large community of family and friends, as well as his beloved furry children, Carolina and Dutton. All who knew and loved Stuart will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Stuart’s life will be planned at a future date.
