Obituary of Nancy A. Holdren

Nancy A. Holdren, 81

Born in Monmouth, Illinois, she moved to California with her parents. She met husband William Holdren, and they were married on December 21,1958 in Riverside California. She lost her husband in 2021 after 62 years of marriage. Nancy and William traveled from California, Hawaii, and Florida. They settled in Charleston, SC

 

She began her career in the 70’s as a firefighter at Caromi Fire Department. She was the first female firefighter and blazed a trail for many others to follow. She progressed to Charleston County EMS from May 1980-April 2010 where she became a crew chief for 30 years. After retiring from Charleston County, she continued to teach new students in various paramedic classes at Rural Metro and Lowcountry EMS. She devoted her life to her family and service to her community.

 

She is survived by a son, Terry Holdren of Ladson, a daughter Danette Holdren Austin of Cottageville, and daughter, the late Sue Albrecht. Also, by six grandchildren, and ten great- grandchildren.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service for Nancy on Wednesday, February 15, from 2-4pm at Simplicity 281Treeland Drive Ste C Ladson, SC
