Obituary of George Albert Estrada

George Albert Estrada, 90, a cherished family patriarch, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones in Bluffton, South Carolina, on March 2, 2024, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Cabimas, Venezuela, on November 9, 1933, George was the beloved son of the late Simon Bruno Estrada and Ana Angelina Mora. He is survived by his sisters Maritza and Martha Estrada and predeceased by his brothers Simon, Juan, Dario, and his sisters Luz Marina and Violet Estrada. George was the cornerstone of a large and loving family.

In the fall of 1952, George embarked on a new chapter of his life as he arrived in the United States to attend Union Springs Academy in New York. His journey led him to meet the love of his life, Glenda Waterhouse, in the fall of 1956. The couple built a life together until Glenda's passing from cancer in 1984.

George's dedication to public service was evident in his 32-year tenure with the state of Massachusetts, where he retired as a committed social worker in community outreach services. His exceptional dedication to those in need was recognized when he was honored with the Staff Member of the Year award in 1986.

George found joy in marriage again with Marilyn Wheeler Estrada, of West Paris, Maine, with whom he shared a beautiful life in Maine.

A proud father of four, George was predeceased by his sons Rick and Lawrence Estrada. He is survived by his daughter Teresa Estrada of Beaverton, Oregon, and his son James Estrada and wife Tammy of Bluffton, South Carolina. George is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, William Estrada and wife Jacquelyn of Southborough, Massachusetts, and Ashley Lombard and husband Devin of Lancaster, Massachusetts.

George's memory will also be honored by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends and family who were fortunate enough to know him.

An avid sports enthusiast, George's passion for the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and World Cup Soccer was only rivaled by his love for cooking, music, reading, nature, and, most importantly, spending time with his family.

While there will be no graveside memorial service, a celebration of George's life will be held later this spring, with details to be announced.
