Obituary of Linda S Geronilla

 

Linda S Geronilla, 72, of Johns Island, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on March 2nd.

Linda was born on May 24th, 1951 to Joseph & Martha Shimko in Canton, Ohio. After Linda graduated from Hoover High school (‘69), she went on to study at Youngstown University (‘72), with an MS in Nutrition at Case Western Reserve University (‘74), & a Ph.D. in Psychology at Kent State University (‘81).

She started a psychology practice, Associates in Counseling & Training in Charleston, WV & devoted her life to helping others self-improve. In 1999, she expanded her practice to include alternative & energy medicine, herbal medicine & studied interfaith ministries.

In 2014, Linda retired and spent her time learning about natural gardening, native plants, bee pollinators, beneficial bugs, school gardening programs & educating others on the importance of cultivating community through growing organic, sustainable foods. 

She received certifications in beekeeping, permaculture gardening, was a master gardener, & a master naturalist. She was a member of the Charleston Area Beekeepers Association, Magnolia Garden Club, Kiawah Garden Club, Kiawah Goes Green Work Group & Kiawah Shorebird Stewardship Program.

Linda is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dante Geronilla; her children, Kenneth Geronilla, Kristina (Mike) Harvey, Katherine (Gregory) Pfeninger, & Karina (David) Phang; five grandchildren; Alana Harvey, Penelope Pfeninger, Pearl Pfeninger, Ella Phang, & Derick Phang; two siblings Lori Shimko, & Gary (Debbie) Shimko; her niece Alison Shimko & nephew, Gregory Shimko.

Services will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on March 16th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Green Heart Project, a school based garden organization that Linda felt strongly connected to for her grandchildren
